Software Engineer (Android)

About the Role:

Experienced Android engineer with solid app development and Android OS knowledge. As a member to an existing high-performing team, the individual should have research oriented experience on Android, Android OS and Linux kernel for figuring out the various unforeseen issues we have historically faced by working on Google Glass and other Android based heads-up-display devices. Moreover: this engineer will also be developing high-quality code/features that will run on Augmedix’s Google Glass/other Android applications.

Responsibilities (Included but not limited to):
  • Develop software by studying information needs, systems flow and work processes
  • Analyze, design, coordinate and maintain the development of software systems to form a basis for the solution of information processing problems
  • Analyze bugs and innovate solutions on a regular basis
  • Respond promptly and professionally to bug reports and issue investigations
  • Determine operational and implementational feasibility by evaluating stories, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions
  • Ensure quality of software by producing quality code adhering to best practices
  • Maintain and follow the agile (scrum) software development process and lifecycle
  • Document code consistently throughout the development process and perform peer code review
  • Research and code with new tools, libraries, APIs and frameworks
  • 2+ year of software development experience in Android, Android OS, Linux
  • Bachelor's’ degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with Android OS and Android Development Framework including Android SDK, NDK, ADB, ADT, Fastboot
  • Experience in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving
  • Proven experience with various smartphone services such as location, wifi, multimedia, notifications, multi-tasking, and bluetooth leveraging Android
  • Process-oriented with ability to work with different UI materials and rapid prototyping
  • Strong design experience and technical knowledge, analytical and 'joined-up' thinking, conflict resolution
Nice to haves:
  • Experience with WebRTC or any other real time streaming protocols
  • Experience in communicating with both technical and non-technical overseas teams
  • Experience with developing apps on Google Glass
  • A portfolio of fast, usable, well architected Android apps in the Play Store is a plus
  • Experience with Gradle
  • Experience with CI servers (e.g. Jenkins, Sonar)
  • Excellent understanding of Java and lower level programming concepts such as OpenGL and Networking
  • Use of private app store or OTA distribution
